Orthodontics
Our confidential and relaxed consultation process aspires to make your journey with us tranquil and grant you the comfort to detail the reasons for wanting treatment and the results you wish to attain.
We offer a wide range of orthodontic options to create healthy, confident smiles. Our primary focus is to achieve a comprehensive and accurate diagnosis of dento-facial problems, as we strongly believe this is the best path to a successful treatment outcome. Through the combination of traditional orthodontics, dental orthopaedics and modern aesthetic orthodontic solutions, we aim to maximize your facial aesthetics and improve your dental and general health.
Why Orthodontics
Orthodontic problems, otherwise called malocclusions, are a misalignment of the teeth and bite, often caused by tooth irregularities and disproportionate jaw sizes. These irregularities often generate aesthetic concerns that can make people feel self-conscious about their smile, create difficulty in chewing and eating and make cleaning teeth more difficult, which in turn increases the risk of gum disease and tooth decay.
Orthodontic treatments can make crooked teeth appear fuller and straight, creating noticeable cosmetic results that can enhance your overall oral health by reducing the risks created by malpositioned teeth and unfavourable occlusion (bite). Furthermore, an improved occlusion can reduce tooth wear, chipped and fractured teeth and prevent jaw joint dysfunction (TMJ).
The team at Cosmetic Dental Group, is in a favourable position to be able to offer a wide variety of orthodontic options, such as aesthetic ceramic braces, state-of-the-art traditional metal braces, orthopaedic orthodontics and invisible clear aligner therapy like Invisalign, Smile True and Inman Aligners. With our strong team of dental professionals and supporting staff, there is a guarantee you will always receive personalized advice on the treatment that best suits your individual needs.
The best time to start treatment will vary from patient to patient. However, we recommend that children should visit an orthodontist for an initial assessment between the ages of 7 and 9, so that any necessary treatment can be started as soon as possible.
An increasing number of adults who missed out on orthodontic treatment when younger are also seeking treatment later in life and it’s never too late to think about having your teeth straightened.
Orthopaedic Orthodontics
All our dentists are passionate about preventing tooth extractions, where possible, in order to ensure that your new smile doesn’t just look great, but also functions just as intended by nature without having to lose healthy teeth.
Orthopaedic orthodontics has been used for many years to improve and correct the position and size of the jaws prior to traditional orthodontic treatment. By incorporating orthopaedic orthodontics in your treatment plan, it is often possible to prevent the loss of healthy teeth but also improve problems associated with your bite and jaw joints. This technique utilizes discrete appliances, which are barely visible and often removable, to gently encourage the development of your dental arches before braces or aligners are placed to close gaps and straighten the teeth.
An added benefit of combining orthopaedics and orthodontics is that it significantly reduces the amount of time braces or aligners are needed to correct malocclusions. An average combined orthopaedic-orthodontic treatment usually lasts between 15-18 months, at the end of which patients will benefit from fuller, more rounded dental arches that fit beautifully around one another creating noticeable aesthetic results. The combination of orthopaedic and orthodontic treatment can create functional and aesthetic harmony to maximise facial aesthetics.
Clear Aligner Therapy
Invisalign and Smile True
Clear aligner therapy is a revolutionary orthodontic system that is ideal if you wish to achieve a confident smile without having to wear fixed braces. By using the latest technology and market leaders in clear aligner systems, such as Invisalign and Smile True, we are able to provide the best results achievable with clear aligner therapy.
Often referred to as invisible braces, clear aligners can gently move teeth into their desired position. Using 3D technology, a series of custom clear aligners changed every 2 weeks gradually reposition the teeth over time. These clear braces provide a more convenient, discreet and comfortable answer to fixed metal braces. Unlike traditional orthodontic appliances, clear aligners can be removed by the patient to eat, drink and clean the teeth.
Traditional Fixed Orthodontic Appliances (Braces)
Traditional Metal Braces
We use Delta Force brackets, a state-of-the-art bracket system that works quickly and efficiently. Due to their low friction capability and in conjunction with bio-efficient heat-activated arch wires, these cleverly designed brackets have the ability to reduce treatment times whilst at the same time apply very low tension to the teeth, making them more comfortable than most bracket systems.
Aesthetic Ceramic Braces
Ceramic tooth coloured braces are an aesthetic alternative to traditional metal braces. With a minimalistic design and almost invisible appearance, these brackets are less noticeable than metal braces as they have a minimal visual impact.
