All of our dentists here at The Cosmetic Dental Group are great at making children feel comfortable and relaxed when they come to visit us.

We encourage parents to bring their children to see us from a young age so that we can make sure both good brushing and eating habits are developed from early on.

At the Cosmetic Dental Group we believe prevention is better than cure, and that it is essential for young people to understand good oral hygiene habits. We recommend children see the Dentist and Dental Hygienist every 6 months, unless undergoing Orthodontic Treatment (3 months recommended to see the Dental Hygienist).

Their Dental Hygienist will discuss personal oral hygiene and will give parents handy advice on cleaning and diet. We may use pictures, demonstration models and disclosing solutions to help children visualise problem areas and aid them in maintaining a healthy mouth. Regular dental visits also help children gain confidence within the dental environment which will have an impact on their attitude towards dental treatment throughout their lives.

Our Dentists will always recommend fissure sealants where appropriate. This is a preventative measure against tooth decay, which also makes tooth brushing more manageable. A fissure sealant prevents decay by forming a layer that enhances protection around the adult tooth, preventing food and bacteria from getting stuck in the tiny grooves.

Each tooth is thoroughly cleaned, prepared with a special solution, and dried before the sealant is carefully applied and allowed to set using a blue shining light. The process is a comfortable one that only takes a few minutes per tooth. Fissure sealants can last for many years, but will need to be checked regularly to make sure that the seal is intact. They can wear over time and sometimes need to be added to or replaced. Fissure sealants are an exclusive benefit to children of our Dental Health Plan as we view this as part of their essential preventative dental care.
