Lived Off-Island? If So Where?
I am originally from the North East. Most of my patients will know me as Geordie, I still have the funny accent. I have lived in various parts of the UK, studying in Manchester and then living in Milton Keynes for a short time. I lived in Oxford and then moved back home to County Durham for a year before I discovered this lovely island Jersey. I moved here 6 years ago to start working at CDG.
Have You Had Any Dental Treatment At The Practice? If So, What?
Yes, I have had two implants under sedation with Jeremy. I lost 2 molars due to fractured roots from previous root canal treatments I had many years ago. The sedation was brilliant, so relaxing and although I was in the chair for a while it seemed to make the time pass really quickly. The implants have been great, I don’t really notice they are there, they really are the next best thing to natural teeth.
I have also had zoom tooth whitening with Katie and Tiff and I do regular home top ups to maintain the colour. I like to see the hygienist regularly (even though I’d like to think I’m doing a good job) it’s good to have my gums checked regularly for preventative reasons.
Favourite Thing About Working At Cdg?
It has to be the team. We are a warm, friendly bunch. Everyone is professional, approachable and always happy to help patients and each other. It’s a nice environment to be part of.
Do You Have Any Dental Goals For The Year?
To maintain my pearly whites and keep my mouth healthy.
I don’t have a favourite band but I love live music and think nothing beats the atmosphere of a good music festival. I hope to go to more music festivals in 2020.
Do You Have Any Hobbies?
I’m always up for trying new things and like to push myself for new experiences. Last year I participated in the white collar boxing charity event. This was tough, physically and mentally but a great experience and something I will never forget.
Earlier this year I took some time out of work and went off travelling around South America for 3 months. It was an amazing adventure. I spent most of my time outdoors, highlights including Galapagos Islands, hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, cycling (and surviving) death road in Bolivia. Experiencing the salt flats of Bolivia and then being dropped off in the Atacama Desert in Chile. Visiting Iguazu falls in Argentina/Brazil and spending time in Rio. South America has the most amazing things to offer, natural beauty at its best. I really loved the different culture and traditions. Memories I will treasure forever.
In the summer I completed my PADI diving certificate. When I first moved to the island I was actually petrified of the sea, I jumped out my skin if a bit of seaweed brushed past me. This was a massive fear for me to overcome…. hopefully I will get on some exciting dives next year and get to test out my new skills.
I would love to be a travel blogger. That would be the dream. Exploring new places with everyday being different and an adventure. Trying new things and sharing all that you have discovered with others. Ticks all the boxes for me.
I don’t really have a favourite Parish as such but I think Jersey as a whole is a pretty special place and I feel lucky to live here. It’s great to leave and get off island, which I try to do regularly but it always feels like home and a lovely place to come back to! I love the beaches here and the cliff paths. I think my favourite beach has to be Beauport on a hot summer’s day, the water is so clear blue…. so refreshing for a dip.
Desert Island Essential?
I think it would be my mum (cute I know)
Sweet Or Savoury?
Definitely savoury. My favourite all time meal is a roast dinner. You just can’t beat a Sunday roast, it’s just got everything. Oh and hummus, I have an unhealthy obsession with it. It’s meant to be a healthy option but I eat so much of it becomes the opposite for me. Too much of a good thing and all that.
What’S Your Bedtime?
It varies from day to day, I don’t have a bedtime, I wouldn’t really stick to it.
Ever Broken A Bone?
I broke my wrist whilst I was training to be a Hygienist in Manchester, it was the first night of fresher’s week in my second year. Not the best start to the year. It didn’t go down too well with the tutors.
Hmmm I don’t think I have an all-time favourite, it depends what mood I am in as to what kind of film I want to watch but the movie Bridesmaids… that cracks me up. I love eat, pray, love too and all the old classics like Dirty Dancing and Pretty woman!
Cillian Murphy is my number one, I’ll have to join the queue with that one though as I think he’s everyone’s number one man of the moment. Tom Hardy, a close second.
What Word Would People Use To Describe You?
People always say I’m a positive person, I try to be. I always try to look on the bright side if I can.
